Overview
Soluble bitumen, also called cutback bitumen, is mixed with a solvent or petroleum distillate to make it fluid and easy to apply. It is used in road construction, waterproofing and industrial work where heating is impractical.
Once the solvent evaporates, the bitumen regains its original properties and forms a strong, durable bond with the surface.
Grades by solvent
- Rapid curing (RC): highly volatile solvent, evaporates fast, ideal for spraying.
- Medium curing (MC): moderate evaporation, used for road sealing and surface treatments.
- Slow curing (SC): less volatile solvent, for priming and mixing with aggregates.
