Granular Urea 46% (Turkmenistan)

Concentrated nitrogen fertilizer in two grades: A for industry, B for agriculture.

Overview

Urea (carbamide) is made from ammonia and carbon dioxide. It is a concentrated nitrogen fertilizer with 46.2% nitrogen on a dry basis.

Urea is the most concentrated nitrogen fertilizer. Its nitrogen is in amide form, which in soil turns first into ammonium and then into nitrate. It dissolves easily in water, and anti-caking agents keep it free-flowing in storage. It is not subject to RID or ADR transport regulations.

Turkmen urea is made in two grades. Grade A is for industry, as a raw material for resins, glues and similar products. Grade B is for agriculture, as a mineral nitrogen fertilizer. It can also be used as a feed additive in animal husbandry.

Turkmenistan has three urea plants, one of them the largest in Central Asia, in operation since 2018, and another operating since 2006 with an annual capacity of 350,000 tons.

Safety, packaging and storage

  • Forms of supply: bulk, 50 kg bags and 1,000 kg big bags.
  • Safety: non-combustible and fire- and explosion-proof in normal conditions; hazard class 3 for its effect on organisms.
  • Packaging: bitumen-coated or laminated paper bags, polyethylene bags, woven polymer bags (laminated or with liners) and soft containers of type MKR-1.0S.
  • Storage: closed warehouses that protect from rain and snow; do not mix with other fertilizers in bulk.
  • Containers and packages wrapped in synthetic film can be stored in the open.
